With the DCR-PC5, Sony achieved super compactness and no degradation in quality as the DCR-PC5 meets the demand of customers for an "All-In-One" and "Feature Rich" camcorder in a small package. Its super compact size is 16% smaller compared to a previous model. The DCR-PC5 provides the same excellent digital picture quality that customers look for in a Sony Handycam. With the addition of the Progressive Shutter System, customers can capture great looking still pictures and store them through the built-in Memory Stick slot. I/O Terminals are also not a problem as there is no need to use adapters. There is even a RS232C (Serial) interface built-in.

Pros: very small and easy to work
Cons: poorly written instruction manual
I received this camera as a Christmas gift and I have been delighted with it. I was looking for something that would help me record our daughter's first year of life. It is much smaller than you would anticipate which makes it very easy to transport. It fits easily in a purse or a backpack so I am much more likely to carry it with me than if I had purchased a larger model. The basic features of the camera are easy to operate, although I know there are a lot of complex features that I have not yet begun to master. The camera easily attaches to a tripod. On Christmas morning, however, I attached it to the tripod improperly and the camera fell about 5 feet to the floor. It survived the fall without a problem. This camera does digital video as well as still photography, however you have to manually switch from one mode to the other (i.e. you cannot take still photos while recording video). The only problem I have had with the camera so far is that the instruction manual lacks detail and I have had to spend a lot of time "figuring things out". All together I think this is the perfect camera for an active family.
