Author's Review
The P52 is a solid buy. I got mine on sale at Best Buy for $199. Basically it is identical to the famous P72 but with a 2x zoom instead of the 3x found on the P72. I find that for 90% of family snapshots taken a 2x is fine. It's about the equal of a 80mm zoom in 35mm format. In fact most SLRs are equipped with 35-80 mm zooms.

Picture quality is outstanding especially at 3.2 megapixel. 3.2 is actually overkill for most 4x6 snapshots. The camera is very easy to use and transferring images to your computer is a snap especially if you have XP as your operating system. A nice thing about the camera is it only uses 2 AA batteries rather than 4 like many other cameras. I have found battery life to be quite good even with only two batteries.

The Sony memory sticks have come down in price and several companies make generic versions for less money. I bought a 64 meg SanDisc at Costco.

I have a Hp 7550 printer which reads the memory sticks even when not connected to a PC. The prints are virtually identical to lab prints.

The only negative is the design. The lens is on the side which makes it difficult to hold. Thumbs often get in front of the lens.

Overall an excellent camera for the money and a great first digital for a beginner.
