Movie File Size

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: It is an overall professional grade camera. Highly recommended you won’t be disappointed!

Cons: Individual MPEG movie size LIMITED 1.45 GB even with larger storage space.

The Bottom Line:
I highly recommend this camera. The professional quality pictures, night photo capabilities, and video quality make it an all around PROFESSIONAL camera that even a novice can use.

After a lot of research I recently purchased the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-F828 Digital Camera instead of a video camera. I LOVE it! The night mode is great and can be used in movie mode also. You can edit the movie on the camera if need be removing parts of each movie. The upload to a PC is very easy and quick. Great night shots! Clear professional pictures! Video can be separated into individual CLEAR pictures. It is very easy to hold not too small and even with battery very light and to my surprise has a tiltable lens.
I purchased a 4 GB microdrive for the camera. I chose not to get the more expensive Memory stick. I highly recommend this cheaper and you get a lot more storage space for the price! My only problem with the camera is that is was advertised as having unlimited movie size depending on the memory size. BUT after recording several movies I noticed that the movie stops recording after 1.45 GB. I originally thought it was a setting on the camera and could be changed but after going to Sony for help discovered the following:
"The Cyber-shot® camera will stop recording while shooting an MPEG movie when the file size reaches 2GB. The file size supported by the camera is limited to 2GB. This is normal operation." Quote from Sony Support Website. http://129.33.22.8/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE/,/?St=425,E=0000000000467564635,K=4067,Sxi=2,Case=obj(236488),UseTemplate=Case.tem
I am not sure on why my camera stops at 1.45 GB each time. My only explanation is that even Sony didn't know the largest movie file size until customers started complaining. I still highly recommend the camera because you just have to hit the record button again and you’re off recording again until your movie file size hits 1.45 GB again.
