Pros: Light, easy to use, lots of fun features
Cons: They don't offer an 8mm tape converter to use in your VCR.
When my ten-year-old JVC 8mm camcorder started doing "flippity-flops" on me, I decided it was time to buy something more reliable. I'd hate to miss something good because my camcorder died on me. So I bought a Sony Handycam Vision CCD-TRV57. I'm writing here because there is no listing for this model in the choices. I think they are all pretty similar.

Like the other models, this camera has the 2.5 inch flip out view screen. You can record while using the screen or by using the viewfinder. You can play back what you taped with sound right on the camcorder, or you can connect it to your TV or VCR for playback or recording onto a VHS. (Unfortunately, they don't have an 8mm tape converter to use in your own VCR for this one.)

END SEARCH
A great new feature is the END SEARCH button. If the tape isn't at the end of the last recording, simply press this button and the end will be searched out automatically!
FADER FUNCTION
To give your recordings a professional appearance, the fader function is wonderful! This camera has several fader options. You can fade in and out to a solid color, a mosaic pattern, or a striped effect. You can fade in only to a bouncing effect, an overlap, or a wipe effect (picture opens up from center of the screen).

You can even superimpose titles, either by selecting one of eight preset and two custom titles or by making your own. You can select the language, color, size, and position of the titles, too.
The instruction manual that comes with the camera is easy to understand. You will refer to it often while learning the special effects and auto exposure modes, but once you learn them all, it's so much fun to use!
I would recommend this camcorder to parents to record all the great (and some not-so-great) things their children do. I would also recommend it to people who love to record nature. I have some excellent footage of some stellars jays in the Rocky Mountains and of a waterfall there as well.
