Pros: lightweight, easy to use, excellent quality
Cons: 8mm tape won't play in VCR
My husband got me this camcorder for Christmas. I just love it. It's light to hold and easy to carry. It's very easy to use. It records high quality video, even in the dark. I am so pleased with it's performance. Up til now we had an old camcorder that must have weighed 40 pounds. At least it felt that heavy after holding it on your shoulder for more than 10 minutes. Also with our old one, the battery would only hold a charge for short periods. A friend of ours said that to prevent that from happening, we had to condition the battery, but I never took the time to do it. Instead, I just complained about it.
The battery in this camera is a Lithium-Ion battery so we won't have that problem. I also like the fact that the remaining minutes left on the battery are displayed as you look through the viewfinder. That way there's no question of how much recording time you have before the battery runs out. The viewfinder also displays the amount of time remaining before the tape runs out.
It is a cinch to zoom or wide out. The zoom is digitally enhanced at 180x for incredible close-ups of far away subjects. There is no need for a light (which would rapidly drain the battery) because this camcorder has a no light/night time recording feature. The standard battery is very small, recharges quickly and lasts more than 2-hours. If this is not enough time, you can buy more of these very small batteries or an optional, larger 13-hour battery.
This camcorder does an excellent job of recording high quality video and audio tapes. It also does an excellent job of playing back the tapes. The tapes can be replayed or viewed through the color viewfinder or by using the included cable to connect it to your TV or VCR. You must play the tapes in this camcorder because 8 mm tapes will not play in a VCR. This is a minor drawback, but when you consider the 8 mm tape format which provides superior video and audio recordings, it is well worth it. Besides, you can play tapes in the camcorder while making a VHS copy on your VCR.
