I shopped around for camcorders under $500, and this one is outstanding. Not only does it have the "night-shot" feature, which allows you to record in total darkness, but it also has lots of "artsy" features like "SOLARIZE", "B/W", "STRETCH", "MOSAIC", and "THIN" which allow interesting looks for your home movies. You can title video segments in numerous colors and designs, and you can fade in and out using all of the aforementioned features. If there was one disappointment about the camera, it would be the battery life. The box was misleading and made you think the battery lasted 15 HOURS in small print it said "CAPABLE". Basically, you get a 1.5-HOUR battery, and you have the option of spending $150 on an extended-life battery.
