Overall a well made game, and a classic for sure, one of the best games out there for Sega Dreamcast

Author's Review
Sonic Adventure is an extremely popular video game developed by Sega. The game was released on September 9th 1999 for Sega Dreamcast in North America. The game sold millions of copies, making it the all time best selling game for Sega Dreamcast. The game received overwhelmingly positive reviews, being one of the highest ranked games for Sega Dreamcast of all time. Both Gamespot and GameSpy gave the game extremely high ratings. The game is known for its fast paced fun environment, with the only downside being the camera angles at some time periods. Despite this, it was a great addition to the Sonic game family, and brought back many memories for people who used to play the old 2 dimensional version of this game for Sega Genesis.

The game play was divided up into two different sections, action stages and adventure fields. This was definitely different from previous versions of Sonic. Another main difference between this Sonic game, and previous Sonic games was the ability to choose from six different characters. Sonic Adventure features the characters Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles “Tails” Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, Amy Rose, E-102 Gamma, Dr, Eggman, and Big the Cat. Sonic obviously involves the most stages of any other character, and his levels typically involve high speed movement and game play, while most of Tail’s levels are shorter.

Action stages are basically just playable levels. This is the only type of area where Sonic or his friends will encounter enemies. There are eleven total action stages, accessible by various different characters. From here, you must make your way through the level, and defeat the various bosses and enemies you come across. Typically at the end there is the one big boss that must be defeated, which is typically the hardest enemy to defeat of all. In the first couple of levels, this is typically Mr. Eggman if I remember correctly.

Overall, I used to love playing this game as a child, as it was one of my favorite games to play. I think it was mostly the combination of excellently designed levels, high speed game play, and the excitement that made this game so much fun. Having several different game modes, as well as different characters to choose from, and having to defeat different bosses and enemies also made this game even more exciting. I miss being able to play this game, but if you’re able to and still have a Sega Dreamcast, I’d highly recommend this game.
