Pros: Tremendous value! Lots of "hi end" features at "low end" cost.
Cons: A trifle larger than similar camcorders. Feels a bit flimsy but similar to others.
The Bottom Line:
If you're in the market for a good Mini DV camcorder at a great price then check this one out.
After reading another review on the WD450; I went over to Best Buy for a "side by side" evaluation of it and the Sony DCR-TRV730 that was recommended. In my opinion, the Sharp is generally about as good as the Sony in performance. The only exception is that the image stabilization is slightly better on the Sony. However I would not pay the nearly $300 difference in price for that benefit alone.
I didn't find that the Sony was smaller, more ruggedly built or had better image quality. In fact, although it could have been that the Sony floor sample wasn't up to par; but the Sharp camcorder actually had a better image. The color, resolution & focus looked better on both the camcorders LCD display and a 15" video monitor. Both camcorders were inches apart, aimed at the same subject & the zoom was set to just fill the frame with the subject.
By the way, I just ordered a WD450 from Costco Online (the big discount store) for $479.99 - with a $100 rebate
to boot - bringing the net to $379.99. That's a bunch less than Best Buys current price.
With all due respect to the other reviewer, IMHO, if you want the real scoop on these camcorders, I strongly recommend that you go to a store & try them yourself.
