The VL-NZ155U is a digital Viewcam supplied with two batteries for over 3.5 hours of recording time and a 16MB SD memory card for storing still images. The VL-NZ155U has a black body design for a high-style look.16 MB SD Memory Card/Slot allows the Viewcam to operate as a digital still camera and as a camcorder. The full motion video is recorded onto a DVC tape while digital stills are stored on the supplied memory card which allows easy transfer to a PC via a built in USB port. Standard and long life batteries allow for over 3.5 hours of video operation at one time without recharging so that no special moments are missed. Digital Picture Effects allow different digital effects (B&W, Sepia, NEG) to be viewed without effecting the original recording and give your video a custom edited look. i.Link (IEEE1394) PC Port is a digital port for transferring full motion video and sound to a PC equipped with an i.Link port.

good videocam for the price

Pros: inexpensive good beginner/advanced videocam
Cons: hard to hold sometimes
The Bottom Line:
With the $100 rebate, it is under $300. You just can't bet this price for a good homemade movie camcorder.
I had a analog viewcam before and just love the design (one problem is that my LCD screen has a lots of fingerprint). This digital version is even smaller (it is smaller than my palm). It is easy to carry around (but it won't fit in your shirt pocket) However, sometimes I find it hard to hold the viewcam for long period of time because it lacks the hand strip that the analog version had.
It has digital still picture feature (it is a plus, but low resolution - which is fine for pictures for recording reason like showing the guy at home depot to match the replacement part. It is definitely won't take masterpiece like the 3-5 Mpixel digital camera). You can also transfer image on the tape to the card as still image. The 2 batteries are handy (standard [lasts for an 1 hour] and extended [for 3.5 hours]) and recharging time is reasonable. This viewcam is like many other that does not have external light source like Sony, it does not do too well in low light, but it has features to help, but with noise. (it is not that big a deal to me, it would be nice to have)
I can't tell the different between VL-NZ155 U and VL-NZ150U beside the color (this one is black).
