Tiny buttons drive you nuts? Try a touch screen! Who needs a standard squint 'n' peek viewfinder when Sharp's Viewcam design offers a 3-inch color LCD screen that swivels 270 degrees? Without the camera stuck in your face, you can easily see what's going on around you, shoot over crowds or even point the camera back at yourself. ??The VL-AH50U's controls put exposure settings, a titling option and special effects literally at your fingertips. And don't worry about fingerprints or smudges: Finger oils don't stick to the LCD's special coating. The LCD is a special "low reflective" model for use in daylight. The 16x optical zoom is among the best for capturing far-away scenes.

Satisfying replacement.

Pros: small size, large screen, quick initial setup, very popular recording format
Cons: no light, no viewfinder, its kinda' awkward using the buttons while shooting
The Bottom Line:
My family is always on the go, and this is the perfect addition to these outings so I'll never miss a memory.
First of all, lets get this straight. This model DOES have auto-focus capabilities and 'Digital Image Stabilization' or DIS. I finally decided to replace my old 'corder. I can honestly say that I am definitely satisfied with my decision to get this one. Compared to my 1989 memorex vhs, this sharp is a godsend. It is extremely lightweight and versatile. Also it's very easy to use. Sure, you're supposed to read the manuals before using, but I'm confident that just about anyone could use this without reading the manual. The controls are very straightforward. The screen has easy to understand on screen messages (it even tells you if there's internal condensation on the tape.) This is a perfect recorder for my family, which is always on the go.
