Tiny buttons drive you nuts? Try a touch screen! Who needs a standard squint 'n' peek viewfinder when Sharp's Viewcam design offers a 3-inch color LCD screen that swivels 270 degrees? Without the camera stuck in your face, you can easily see what's going on around you, shoot over crowds or even point the camera back at yourself. ??The VL-AH50U's controls put exposure settings, a titling option and special effects literally at your fingertips. And don't worry about fingerprints or smudges: Finger oils don't stick to the LCD's special coating. The LCD is a special "low reflective" model for use in daylight. The 16x optical zoom is among the best for capturing far-away scenes.

Great Beginning Camera

Pros: good value, easy to use, durable
Cons: short battery life, not for experienced, bad at night
I bought this camera to tape me and my friends in our final year of college. It is my first video camera so I have no real comparison, but I am so far really happy. The picture quality is really good, it zooms well and clearly and it is very easy to work with the window. The color is fairly realistic and does well zooming. I have noticed that it is not very good at night though, even if you set it to evening recording. The LCD window is 3 inches and Sharp cameras seem to be the only ones with the window built into the camera instead of folding out. I enjoy it and find it really easy to use and easy to see, the view screen doesn't reflect like others I have seen. The sound is fairly good as well, easy to hear, although not perfect. It's optical zoom is 16x and it remains really clear even when you zoom all the way in on something. It is also pretty light, just over 1.5 pounds. The battery is Nickel Metal Hydride Battery (NiMH) which is supposed to last long, but I haven't found to be so great. The only other real drawbacks I have found are a pretty short battery life, but considering how cheap it is, I think it is totally worth it. I am sure that video afficionados would not like it, but for young people, parents, grandparents, etc. it makes a great buy.
