Want to Move Freely? Forget the Viewfinder. The Sharp Viewcam VL-A10U does not have a viewfinder - you frame your shots in its 3-inch 270° rotating LCD, the largest screen you'll find for the price. You'll either love this method of shooting, or feel lost without a viewfinder. If you want to keep your eye on the scene, not in that little square, this is the camera for you. ??This Viewcam's swivel LCD screen lets you move the camera away from your face, so you can watch the kids while you record, shoot over crowds or even point back at yourself to add some narration. The prominent LCD screen, with its manual brightness control, is also well suited for in-the-field playback. You won't miss any important shots, because an indicator keeps you up-to-date on the remaining battery power and tape length. This feature is particularly important because LCD operation burns more battery power than a viewfinder - but it's still a good idea to carry a spare battery. Minimize

Worth Getting to Know

Author's Rating: Rating: 4/5 stars

Pros: Lightweight and easy to use for simple recording. Offers advanced recording features.

Cons: Menu options take awhile to scroll through. Be careful with the volume.

The Bottom Line:
I highly recommend it. It's easy to use for simple recording yet still offers advanced features. Take time to read your instruction booklet. This camera's worth getting to know!

This camera is definitely worth getting to know. It's easy to use if you just want to record what's going on. However, it has some really neat features like a sports background, or party background to really spice up those already special occasions. The menu options take a little while to go through and figure out what each one does, but it's well worth your time to learn all about these features. With the camera's 16x zoom, it allows you to get really close even when you're sitting in the middle of the auditorium and your child is on center stage.
I think perhaps the best feature is the screen. It's not a flip screen that could "come off". You can see what you're recording clearly and you don't miss what else is going on around you (while you're peering through the sites on other cameras).
I purchased this particular camera because two other family members already had it and loved it. However, both have since had problems with the volume not working. So be careful with the volume control.
