Look inside the hood of xB and you'll find a 1.5 Liter 16 valve in-line 4-cylinder engine with Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence (VVT-I) technology. This light and compact power plant gives every xB an excellent horsepower-to-weight ratio. The automatic transmissions utilize an advanced powertrain known as grade logic. This technology manipulates the shift logic of transmissions during uphill or downhill driving. By simply lifting the throttle while ascending hills, upshifts can be inhibited and the engine can remain in the peak torque band to maintain a smooth ride throughout. A similar logic applies during downhill driving to provide more engine braking by not upshifting needlessly.
