Samsung SPH-i700 Smartphone

Samsung SPH-i700 Smartphone

With the new Samsung i700, Verizon Wireless finally offers a Pocket PC-based smart phone worthy of the company's high-speed 1xRTT voice and data network. Its size, shape, and high-end features make it something of a thoroughbred, especially compared to other Pocket PCs.

Ignore bact3rla's review - doesn't seem to get the product or updates

Author's Rating: Rating: 4/5 stars

Pros: Bright screen, speakerphone, voice dial recognition, 4 modes of "writing" and recognition, PC/modem functionality

Cons: Somwhat bulky, camera average, COMPARE with version that has 2003 CE (free)

The Bottom Line:
GREAT robust PDA functionality, writing recognition; though bulky, can get second phone FREE from verizon (and forward calls to the small one when you want free)

This phone has a killer screen - clear and bright. It has some things you may rarely use (MS Word and Excel - not really useful on a PDA). But it has some other great functions like the speaker phone (press the handset send signal AFTER the call has connected) which is clear and useful; the ActiveSync is great because it syncs with your MS Office desktop flawlessly; you can write in 4 modes that will be recognized - including PALM style letters, a little keyboard (I don't use much), and the COOLEST thing is that it recognizes FULL sentances in script or regular writing. Yeah, its not always pefect, but you get used to it - and with the latest CE upgrade, it seems more accurate (I love this feature). It has notes that you can write while on the phone or whatever. You get FREE internet service if you purchase from Verizon which the service agents don't always know (albeit slow - but you can pay more for higher speeds) but its good for quick internet checks and email AND you can connect it to your laptop as a MODEM so if you're stuck in the sticks, it can be good for that emergency situation (as long as you get Verizon service). FINALLY, there is voice recognition dialing (download from the internet) - which is kind of cool - though seems like there could be a few more features (later versions). Also, since this is Windows CE, there's a plethora of software out there to use and download (might have to buy extra memory).
