Solid piece of technology

Pros: Rugged, strong, sturdy, dependable.
Cons: Zoom feature, resolution.
The Bottom Line:
Outside of the 1.3MP, this is a very dependable camera which I have put through the wringer and it has come through on the other side. Excellent piece of technology.
The Samsung Digimax 101 may not be pretty or super technological but it most definitely serves its purpose and is rugged to say the least. I purchased this camera three years ago at Walmart for $89.00 because I needed an easy to use digital camera in a pinch.
Why is this camera solid? It has fallen out of pockets while snowboarding, been fallen on while snowboarding, been taken into the ocean without a protective cover and had a wave wash over it (which pretty much soaked the camera), been crunched against a wall 200 feet in the air, dropped on the sidewalk and lastly dropped 10 feet on to rocks.
With all this TLC shown towards the camera, the 101 has performed almost flawlessly. Only after the last incident (dropping 10 feet) does the camera no longer have a flash bulb cover and needs duct tape to keep the batteries in. Indoor pictures (pre-10 feet fall) make the distant background slightly dark but close-ups are great. The pictures are not blurry nor too pixelated. I have the settings on 1.3MP for the highest quality. Outdoor photos are excellent, capturing many different landscapes and still/slow-moving objects. The shutter time lasts about 1 second so it's not conducive to fast moving objects.
The 101 has a zoom feature which I have not used that much because it is either normal size or 2X (Quite a selection, huh?).
The battery life, even when continually viewing photos, is very good. (I use rechargable batteries.)
I purchased another digital camera a year after from HP (3.2 MP) for my girlfriend. The Samsung 101 outlasted it. It is time to retire the Samsung now, unfortunately. However, my next purchase is another Samsung.
