Pros: An absolute miracle for cleaning up junk on most DVDs
Cons: The remote is a little quirky, but OK if you are patient.
The Bottom Line:
If you play DVDs on a big screen HDTV, this is the machine you need until they end the fight over the HD format for DVDs.
I had a Sony and a Philips DVD player and on some films
they picked up a lot of vibrating images, especially in evenly spaced horizontal lines -- such as steps.
In my new version of Cleopatra, the eyes of anyone outdoors seemed to vibrate in their heads. The solution proposed by my video dealer was a $900 Denon, but some punk at Best Buy said I really should try the Samsung. Well, I did. I bought it from my video shop with the understanding I could return it if it didn't work right. I called Sony to make sure it would work with my 60 inch Grand Wega LCD projection TV. I plugged it in using the DVI connector and
turned it on and was amazed. All the wiggling and squiggling were GONE. The picture was stable and as good as all but Super Duper HD shows such as the ones made from
IMAX films. The picture from my DVDs is now as good as any HD telecast of a vintage movie, such as Battle of the Bulgge, Night of the Generals, etc, A spectacular machine for a reasonable price (under $200). I will keep it until I can figure out which of the new HD DVD formats is going to be the best.
