Cons: Style not always audience friendly. For some-ambiguous ending might disappoint.

Ben Gazzara's incredible performance highlights this unique film which is full of wonderful little character moments. It's the rich performances by Gazzara and Elliot which dominate.

Pros: Taken directly from the book, Ben Gazzara's masterful performance, realistic settings and period.
Cons: Too dark in many scenes. The ending will leave many wondering, "Where's the Fourth Act."
Bottom Line:
A realistic drama set in Vietnam Era Singapore. A portrait of an American living in the Far East by dubious means. Virtually historic but very accurate.
