Read the repair policy!

Author's Rating: Rating: 1/5 stars

Pros: Good when it works

Cons: Lousy customer support.

The Bottom Line:
Based on performance of product and its company, I do NOT recommend it. The product may have been a "lemon" but Royal is cumbersome to deal with.

I purchased this shredder from a local store and was very pleased with it. It was easy enough to operate, fit nicely next to my desk, and the basket was a snap to empty.

After 3 months however, stopped shredding. The motor was fine (it would work when you put in in "reverse") but it would not accept papers to shred. I contacted Royal by phone, and they told me I had to write their customer service department to see if I "qualified" for a replacement (it has a 1 year warranty). I was very annoyed that after being on hold for 20 minutes, no one would talk to me about the problem, but insisted I had to write in.

So I wrote them a letter, and a few weeks later received a slip that authorized me to return the shredder to them (at my expense of course) for a product exchange. But the memo also stated "no further warranty". (hmmmm. does this mean the "1 year warranty" ends with the first problem?)

The authorization was only good for 30 days and to be honest I never got around to packing the thing up and shipping it back. Shipping would cost me about $20, and since I paid $50 for it, I decided to take the $30 I would have net-ed, and put it toward another shredder.

Or, I might just take this one apart and see if I can fix it myself! It's not like I can BREAK IT :-)
