Good Shredder For Your Home

Author's Rating: Rating: 4/5 stars

Pros: Reliable, Small, Easy to Empty, Shreds into Fine Pieces, Safe, Good for Home Use

Cons: Loud

The Bottom Line:
I would recommend this shredder for home use, but not for the person that shreds hundreds of papers a day.

Author's Review
A few months ago we bought a Royal 85X Shredder. I am sort of paranoid about leaving my bank account numbers laying around. We looked around for small shredders. This shredder was the best buy for our buck that we could find. It only cost us about $60. It is powered by electricity, you just need to plug it into the outlet and it's ready to go.

This shredder is small. It is 18 inches tall, 9.5 inches deep and 13 inches wide. It can just fit in the corner without ever getting in the way. It is also very light so you can move around when needed. It shreds the paper into very small pieces, 0.13 x 1.38 inches to be exact. It can shred at the speed of 11 feet per minute. The throat size in 9 inches it can shred up to ten pages at a time! This can save you a lot of time by putting ten pages in at a time rather than one page at a time. It has jam free rollers to help keep if from jamming. On the top left side there is a switch. You can switch it to Reverse, Off, and Auto. If you leave it on auto you can just put the paper in and it will shred it. And then when you are done it just sits like it is off. If you are not going to use it for a while you can turn it on "off". Then if you do by chance jam it by putting in to many papers you just switch it to reverse and it will spit it right out.

You can shred credit cards in this machine. You don't even need to worry about taking off staples in the paper; it will take care of them fine. When I use this shredder I get it jammed frequently because I am not very patient and I try to put in as much paper as I can without jamming it which is usually about 10-15 papers but sometimes it will jam. When this happens I just switch it to reverse and the paper comes out. I can usually shred for at least fifteen minutes before it needs to cool down. To empty the paper there is a small door in front that opens to the waste basket that the shredded paper automatically goes into. You can just pull out the little basket and empty it into the trash, then put it right back in and it's ready to shred once again. The waste basket comes with the shredder so you don't have you buy your own. On the door in front there is a small window letting you see when the basket is full and needs to be emptied. It is safe. You can not fit your fingers in it. The only bad thing about this is that it is very loud when it is shredding. It is louder than the big industrial shredders.

It is reliable and I can trust that it will be working so I can cut up my documents that need shredding so I don't have to worry about my important documents and information getting stolen.
