Director Christopher Columbus (MRS. DOUBTFIRE, HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE) adapts the hit Broadway musical of the same name to the big screen in RENT. A modern spin on the opera LA BOHEME, RENT tells the story of eight friends dealing with life and love in Manhattan's Alphabet City in 1989. Wannabe filmmaker Mark (Anthony Rapp) and singer/songwriter Roger (Adam Pascal) are facing eviction at the hands of their former roommate and current landlord, Benny (Taye Diggs). Benny has married rich, moved out of the neighborhood, and wants to build a state-of-the-art studio where the local tent city stands. Their downstairs neighbor, vivacious Mimi (Rosario Dawson), who strips at a local club to feed her heroin habit, takes a shine to Roger, a self-imposed recluse and former junkie whose last girlfriend died of AIDS. Their friend, Collins (Jesse L. Martin), returns to town and quickly falls for Angel (Wilson Jermaine Heredia), a glamorous, gracious, HIV positive transvestite. Finally, there is Maureen ...

Pros: Great music, Realistic, everything about this movie!
Cons: It gets really sad at the end...
The Bottom Line:
The bottom line is the movie is amazing so I recomend either go rent it now or just buy it! It's worth it!
When this movie first came out I was still young, I saw the commercial on television and I wanted to watch it because it looked like a really good movie, but when it came out I forgot about it. Then, last year in chorus we sang seasons of love concert, which brought me back to wanting to watch the movie, so I went to the store and bought the movie and the soundtrack to go with it. I fell in love with Rent! It’s my favorite musical so far, but I don’t know if anything can top Rent. You could say that I’m a Rent freak since I’ve seen the movie a bazillion times.
This movie is so life like, because this really happens to people all around the world, maybe not exactly like this but it show you how the people that do handle it and go on with there lives. Most of the people in this movie have Aids but they try to live as normal as possible.
The cast was great, They deffidently picked the best cast for this movies. They all fit perfectly with there characters. Roger used to be a druggy and was also in a rock band. Mimi is into drugs too but tries to quit at one point, she works as and exotic dancer at the Cat Scratch Club. Mark is the film maker that gets dumped by Maureen. Speaking of Maureen, she is a performer and is now dating Joanne who is a lawyer, and yes the are lesbians. Tom Collins as he likes to be called works with computers and used to teach about them. Angel is a cross dresser or also known as a drag queen (I think he makes a great girl). Angel and Collins make a great couple in this movie. Lastly, Benjamin was now not really like by any of them because he left them to be homeless when his father in law wanted to by the lot that all the homeless people were living in, which is mest up because Benjamin used to live with them.
The songs in this movie are very catchy and will get stuck in your head, but since they are so good it won’t even matter. The vocals are AWESOME! The song will make you want to sing along with them and they will make you want to try and sing like the cast which all have amazing voices. Emotions rise at points in this movie but that’s great because its keeps the movie going and doesn’t get boring, very entertaining!
This movie was originally a Broadway show, which one day I hope to see, because people have told me it’s even better on Broadway. You should go check it out to! Well if you love the movie!
