Henry Turner (Harrison Ford), a wealthy, high-powered, highly successful Manhattan lawyer, seems to have everything -- a perfect wife (Annette Bening), a perfect daughter, a perfect life. In fact, Henry is completely cold, rigid and unable to experience love or joy in his day-to- day existence. Everything changes, however, when Henry is gunned down in an act of random violence, and must undergo a slow, difficult recovery. In the process of relearning the most basic skills -- walking, reading, getting dressed in the morning -- Henry discovers something even more important: how to love his family and friends again and how to find true happiness in life.

A Must See
| Author's Rating: |
|
Pros: Great acting, Great characters, Great themes
Cons: None
The Bottom Line:
A must see for sure!
This movie is a clasic. It's definitely one that you must have for your collection.
Plot
Henry Turner is a ruthless lawyer who has it all. He is shot in the head during a robbery. Luckily, he lives, but suffers from Amnesia. Not only that he must struggle to regain his speech and motor skills. To everyone's surprise not the least of which is his wife and daughter Henry turns his life around. Because of this loss of memory, he becomes a caring and affectionate man.
Acting
There are some who say that Harrison Ford always plays the same type of person. I would agree with that to some extent, but I believe that this role is a little bit of a departure from the norm for him. Some would continue to argue that he still plays the "hero" in this one, but I still say it takes some great acting to play this part. To go from a ruthless lawyer to someone who is learning to speak and walk again is, I'm sure, not easy. For this, that he did a really great job in this movie. Annette Bening plays his wife, Sarah. She also does a great job. It's interesting to see how she changes in the light of her husband's changes. Annette even won an award for being a newcomer in this film. His daughter is played by Mikki Allen. They do a great job of all relating to each other and playing off each other. Here's a listing of the main parts and who plays them:
Harrison Ford ... Henry Turner
Annette Bening ... Sarah Turner
Michael Haley ... Court Clerk (as R.M. Haley)
Stanley Swerdlow ... Mr. Matthews
Julie Follansbhee ... Mrs. Matthews
Rebecca Miller ... Linda
Bruce Altman ... Bruce, Henry's Partner
Elizabeth Wilson ... Jessica, Henry's Secretary
Donald Moffat ... Charlie Cameron
Mikki Allen ... Rachel Turner
Aida Linares ... Rosella
John MacKay ... George
Mary Gilbert ... Julia
Peter Appel ... Eddie the Doorman
Harsh Nayyar ... Liquor Store Owner
Details
This movie was made in 1991 and is 108 minutes long. It's perfect in length. It's in the Drama genre, but there is plenty to keep just about everyone engaged. This is one for those who don't normally enjoy drama. It's really well done. It's rated PG-13, and because of some adult situations I would recommend this only to the older teen. Plus this is one that your younger children probably wouldn't enjoy anyway.
Like It
The themes in this movie are great. To see Henry start out as such a ruthless lawyer and then turn his life around because of such an extreme event makes you think of your own life. The acting is superb in this one. You really have to see Harrison Ford playing this character. He brings a depth that you just can't imagine to the role. This is one that you must buy for your collection.
Dislike It
I don't think that there is anything in this movie that I can put on this side. This is one great movie.
