This brand is a piece of crap. Customer service also sucks.

Pros: Shreds with no problems when it's new or not too old.
Cons: Breaks down after a few years of minimal use. Nonexistent customer service.
The Bottom Line:
I would never recommend GBC products to anyone. After owning 2 of their shredders, no more. They broke down too soon. Customer service is nonexistent.
Owned 2 GBC shredders in the past. They both died on me within maybe 3-4 years. I don't shred alot of documents. I maybe use it briefly once every few months to shred some credit card statements and other papers I don't want to just toss away in the trash without making it unreadable. The shredders were both well cared for, but they just stopped working while in use. The last one I owned just stopped midway of shedding 3 sheets at once. This is suppose to be able to handle 8 sheets, but I never go up to the maximum number of sheets. Sparks were coming out of it when I shook it a little to see if it would start running when it stopped.
My brother bought a cross-cut shredder from Walmart for $30 and it is still running fine. I paid over $100 each for the GBCs and they died. I also tried to contact their customer service department by email through their website, but never received a response. So what does this tell you about how they treat their customers? They just want your money and that's it. Make your product last for a few years and hope the customer buys another one when the previous one breaks. Well never again. I will buy another brand which costs much less and seems to work more reliably than GBC (ie. I'm talking about the Walmart ones). I also notice that GBC shredders are one of the more expensive ones compared to other brands. So in this case, more expensive doesn't necessarily mean better quality and longer life span.
