The Pontiac Solstice is a high point of innovative design. All the planning, engineering and refining culminates in an inspired roadster, delivering what may very well be the perfect open-air driving experience. Fluid lines wrap around the GM global RWD compact performance architecture with unibody construction, and set the stage for crisp response and exhilarating performance delivered by the 177 horsepower 2.4L 4-cylinder ECOTEC DOHC VVT engine. The AISIN 5-speed short throw manual transmission allows for quick gear changes. Four-wheel vented disc brakes slow you down before you accelerate out of the corners while the ergonomic contoured driver's seat holds you firmly in place. Minimize

Finally!! A car to make an old man smile.......ME!!!

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: The way it makes you feel when you drive it! Price, Design/Styling, GM made.

Cons: Envious Neighbors. Envious, strangers who might think I some rich dude. Cold winter nights? :o)

The Bottom Line:
If the shoe doesn't fit, don't buy it. But, if it fits like a glove, fall in love! BUY IT!

For 9 wonderful years, I owned a second hand 1976 MGB. I've missed that care ever since I got rid of it in a fit
rage. MG owners will relate to this...... It left me on
the side of the road one too many times.....

Electrical problems....multiple and often. But nothing gave
me the feeling of tooling around in my open air, fun to
drive, underpowered ( at 91 hp ) little beast.

But, as much as I missed that feeling, I couldn't bring
my self to buy another used convertible and frankly didn't
fit comfortably into any anything from across the pond.
( It's an amazing thing about MGB's ... my 6ft 2in frame
fit easily and I had plenty of leg space. )

I knew I had found my car when I first sat in a black Solstice and then a red one at two different dealerships
in Orlando.

I could tell by the way the car stood there in the showroom;
Pontiac was definitely on the right track! When I got
in, it fit me to a "T". I had plenty of leg room and
the seats held me like a glove. Now, my 5ft 3in wife found
that she had to figure out a graceful way to get in, but
when we finally drove one at General Motors' "Autoshow in
Motion", being held in Disney's EPCOT parking lot, we both are sold
on it.

I've thought of pretty much nothing else except that car ever since I drove it and have a great big smile on my face
now as I type this! I am THAT thrilled with the car and I
have to say that it's been a long time since a car, that I
can afford, has gotten me this excited! ;o)

At 177 hp (stock), the acceleration of the Solstice doesn't
compare to the straight-shift corvette I got to drive at the same show, but who's kidding who?? I'm 55 not 25....
and believe you me....speeding tickets cost you more than
just the price of the ticket!!! My insurance went from
$850 every 4 months to $1750 every 4 months for
the next THREE YEARS...all over one speeding ticket.......
but I digress.

The Pontiac Solstice or course has a cousin in the wings;
the Saturn SKY, but I like the lines of the Solstice and
the fact that the Solstice sticker price starts out at
$5,000 less than the SKY. To me, it seems that the SKY's
design and styling is more in competition with Dodge's
sports cars, where the Solstice is designed to compete with
everything else!

Viva AMERICA!!
