Prefer the Vibe over the Matrix

Pros: Good mileage, spacious, roof rack
Cons: Do not have transponder key as Matrix does
The Bottom Line:
Great choice if you need a spacious, flexible family car but don't want an expensive SUV.
I checked out both Toyota Matrix and the Vibe and finally decided on the Vibe. They are the same under the hood (same engine as a Corolla), and different by body style and packaging.
Things that attracted me are the roof rack, standard fog lamp, wider hatch (yes, the large rear lamp of the Matrix reduced the hatch width), and I like the rear design as a whole over that of the Matrix.
The rear blind spot of Matrix is a little smaller due to the the rear windows design, but I don't see that as a big problem.
The base package of Vibe contains much better components. It is actually kind of fair to compare the base Vibe with Matrix XR. And I am not stuck to take alloy wheels and side skirt if I don't want to.
The driver seat is roomy and high so you can see the road well. Cargo area is spacious and useful. And I can hide lots of the tools, rope etc in hidden compartments leaving more room for cargo.
We also have a 2003 Corolla, and my Vibe give me the same reliability and provide the flexibility that a sedan cannot offer.
