Author's Review
The Pioneer DEH-P47DH has been out for a couple of years now and is a popular AM/FM CD player today. This unit is made to fit into a late model GM or Chrysler vehicle without any adapters or special plates. This unit includes a detachable face with a multi color display.

The Features!
The Pioneer DEH-P47DH has 22 watt RMS and 45 watts of peak power per channel times four channels. It uses a MOSFET amplifier for low distortion and a high power output. You can add an optional amplifier for a subwoofer through a pair of preamp outputs. There are outputs for a full range output like a subwoofer or non fading outputs. The best sound will be through the optional amplifier.

This unit is ready for an extra CD changer and an XM tuner, both at an extra cost to you. For XM radio you need the tuner, an antenna and a subscription to use it, XM radio is only available in the 48 continental states.

The tuner uses Pioneer's proprietary Supertuner III with 6 buttons to tune in 24 stations of 18 FM and 6 AM stations.

The LED multi-color display is backlit to display and illuminate the frequency and CD track & time in white and the mode indicators and the select buttons guide in green. In the left hand portion of the display, in blue, is the EQ curve display. All other buttons are backlit with green illumination with the EEQ button in blue illumination. The LCD has a 10-Character Display for Disc Title Memory and CD Text.

The EEQ button features a 3 band Equalizer plus loudness controls and custom settings.

If you have a cellular phone with a mute output then you can connect it to the DEH-P47DH and receive calls over your in-dash system. When you get a phone call the audio is transferred to your speakers and the radio or CD sound is shut off, once you hang up the sound returns.

A Disc Changer
Here are some of the features if you use a CD changer with the Pioneer DEH-P47DH.

The manual shows that you can use it with up to a 50 disc changer, wow that would give you a nice CD collection in the vehicle.

Instant Track Selection for up to 24 tracks per disc that can be programmed into memory for up to 100 discs. Titles with up to 10 characters can be entered with 100 discs.

Other features include Disc Skip forward and reverse, Track Skip forward and reverse, Direct Disc Access for presets, Pause, Repeat, Random Play and Scan Play.

What Comes in the Box!
The Pioneer DEH-P47DH AM/FM/CD receiver with a Detachable face.
A wiring harness with a 10-amp fuse, mounting hardware and brackets for GM and Chrysler vehicles.
A Manual and Installation Manual in English and French.
The Warranty Card

Overall!
The Pioneer DEH-P47DH is a nice addition over the factory one. This unit was installed free of charge with our purchase so I have no installation to tell you about. It did fit nicely into a 2000 Monte Carlo without any extra adapters than what come with it, though there was an extra charge of $19.95 for a wiring harness.

The unit was installed with the current factory speakers and no CD changer. It looks great compared to the factory unit.

The sound it produced was much better than the factory unit with a clearer and more bass sound than before. Though I am afraid of cranking it much over the 50% level because of the factory speakers that might blow. With a 50% volume it is impressively loud compared to the original unit.

The CDs sound great including the ones I recorded from an MP3 file and converted them to a CD format. It is easy to maneuver with and easy to get use to the controls. Plus it is really a good looking unit!

If you are looking for a nice well equipped AM/FM CD then this one is worth a look. The only thing missing is the ability to play MP3 music files. In time we plan on adding more powerful speakers and a nice subwoofer, till then this has a nice sound!

I highly recommend the Pioneer DEH-P47DH AM/FM CD player!
