Philips Norelco 7310XL
This razor replaces one I got about 3 years ago. As I only paid about $25 or $30 for it back then and replacement blades cost about that much, I really can’t complain. However, I do have a different model from over 20 years ago that still works. (interestingly, the older one is much heavier but does a better job with the trimmer).
This unit has been on the market for more than a year or two which means it is something that Norelco is staying with. It is not designed to be used in the shower or in zero gravity. However, it is more than acceptable for most of us.
Quality of shave
All my life I’ve used an electric razor (my dad used one so I guess that habit was passed on to me!). I’ve been using double/triple headed Norelcos since my teen days with a couple others in between.
For the most part I’ve been pleased with Norelco. I’ve always used the less expensive models. You get a very good shave with newer blades. They need to be replaced every year or so. (cost is about $25, the price of a replacement razor when it goes on sale).
You can also use a pre-electric shave lotion which improves the shave. Store brands are more than acceptable. The lotion helps to dry the skin plus allow for a smoother shave.
Maintenance
You do have a bit of maintenance with the razor, i.e. removing the hairs in the head (I just blow them out over the trash bin). In addition, there is a brush so you can take out the blades and remove the hair that builds up in there. I’d suggest doing it every month or so depending on the coarseness of your beard (mind is quite coarse). Taking out the blades and putting them back in is not difficult, you just have to spend about 5 minutes doing this CAREFULLY!
I also suggest putting the razor, etc on a large sheet of paper as a lot of "dusty" pieces of your beard will fall out.
Durability
It’s a light and inexpensive import so it can break. I dropped the previous one and the head kept falling off but it still worked. The trimmer on it didn’t work so good after a year. The older one (which still works on electricity, not battery) doesn’t trim anymore so I either use the new one or my older unit which does a better job.
Charge
I usually take the razor with me in my gym bag and shave after a workout. I can get about 2 weeks of shaving out of it. You don’t get too much notice when it’s about to conk out so if you go to a gym or someplace else before work, make sure you have the cord with you or you’ll be half shaven! However, if you keep it off for a few minutes, you can get another 30 seconds (or thereabouts) so you can salvage your appearance.
Ease of use
It’s light which is great and the unit is easy to hold. What is especially nice about this unit is that you can use it as an electric razor. It doesn’t have to charge for several hours so you can use it. It works immediately as soon as it is getting electricity.
Value
As I paid only about $30 for it, it’s a great deal. I would almost recommend buying a second one if you go to the gym a lot or to keep at the office to hide that 5:00 shadow that may appear at lunchtime when you have an important event that you need to look good for! (I’m not as handsome as Don Draper and stubble doesn’t look good on me).
A decent shave at a very decent price

Pros: Price/value, comfortable to hold, good charge
Cons: not the most durable
The Bottom Line:
Good value, make sure you replace blades annually, clean it regularly and you'll be satisfied. Trimmer doesn't work after a while.
