Philips DVP3340V DVD/VCR combo- doing the job for us!

Pros: inexpensive, easy to use and hook up.

Cons: can't control TV with remote, it misbehaves occasionally.

Pros: Inexpensive, comparatively speaking

Cons: DVD pauses on its own. VCR eats tapes. Extremely poor warranty service.
