Author's Review
It is a pleasure taking pictures using this camera. I selected it primarily because of the size -- it easily fits into a pants pocket and secondly because of the high quality/price ratio: for $250 one gets 4.0 megapixel quality shots, very hard to beat that.

It is truly amazing how far along digital cameras have come in the last three years. When I compare the Pentax s40 to my older Olympus Camedia 1.3 megapixel camera (which I also bought for about $250 at the time) it's like comparing day/night. The Pentax camera takes very wide angle, high quality pictures and comes with a built-in 32mb memory chip which can hold approximately 48 fairly-high quality images in memory. An additional 256mb card can be added if one needs to be able to to store either higher-rez images or to increase the capacity in general.

Another nice feature that I like is the ease of connecting the camera to the computer via a USB port. A single mouse-click is required to dump the contents of the memory chip onto the computer hard disk and the procedure takes about 5 seconds.

Lastly, and this again I find very nice when comparing this camera to my old Olympus is the longevity of the batteries. I have been taking pictures (with/without the flash) for several days now and have not had to replace the batteries yet (while with my previous camera I had to replace batteries after about 30 shots.

I would highly recommend this camera because it's cute, high in quality, low in price and efficient.
