Flat-panel, big-screen luxury is yours with Panasonic's 42-inch VIERA series TH-42PX25U/P. This 1,024 x 768-pixel gas-plasma TV offers a 16:9 widescreen dimension, photo-viewing SD and PC Card slots, and an HDMI input for direct-digital connection with high-definition sources. Its ATSC tuner pulls HD signals (480p/1080i) right out of the airwaves, however, and its QAM tuner is fully compatible with unscrambled HDTV cable reception. Pros: Picture Quality (esp. HD), ease of use, sound quality from built in speakers, value.
Cons: Does not memorize your settings separately from dvd, and Cable/Sat. box.
I researched DLP, and Plasma sets for 9 months before purchasing and I'm extremely happy with this product. The black levels are 2nd to none, and the overall picture quality is among the finest available. HD images are absolutely beautiful on this display. Standard definition is more than acceptable by setting the aspect ratio to "zoom". The factory default settings were a bit harsh as they are with most displays out of the box. I turned down the color from 31 to 26, and brightness from 31 to 27. I also backed down the "picture" setting a bit, and changed the overall image from "vivid" to standard. As far as additional settings I changed color temp. from cool to standard to remove a blue push.
I'm not a techno geek, and can say that these adjustments are very easy to make. This set is also rated #1 by Consumer Reports, and makes their "best value" ranking as well.
