Flat-panel, big-screen luxury is yours with Panasonic's 42-inch VIERA series TH-42PX25U/P. This 1,024 x 768-pixel gas-plasma TV offers a 16:9 widescreen dimension, photo-viewing SD and PC Card slots, and an HDMI input for direct-digital connection with high-definition sources. Its ATSC tuner pulls HD signals (480p/1080i) right out of the airwaves, however, and its QAM tuner is fully compatible with unscrambled HDTV cable reception. A standard analog NTSC tuner receives standard-definition (SD) programming, and 2-tuner/split-screen picture-in-picture gives you unparalleled viewing convenience with scalable image sizes.

Pros: Great Set, Great Quality Picture, Sound & Options.
Cons: None, not even the cost ;-)
The Bottom Line:
Durability: I can't give it unbreakable, because they are very sensitive units. But I can see it lasting a very long time.
When I was looking to purchase a Plasma, I was torn between the DLP sets, the EDTV sets, HDTV sets and making matters even more confusing the available options that each had to offer varied it could make even the most techno savvy person go a bit crazy...
The differences:
HDTV - High Definition TV 1024 lines of resolution
EDTV - Extended Definition TV less than 1024 but more than 480 lines of resolution
DLP - Digital Light Processing TV (available in HD or ED TV)
Plasma - Plasma (available in HD or ED TV)
All the articles I have read, and after speaking to several people who own DLP & PLASMA sets. The uniform opinion is Plasma is a better picture. Yes more expensive, but higher quality on all levels.
I finally decided on this set and am thrilled I did!!
Sound Quality: It is so good that I am amazed, and actually did NOT bother to hook up the home theater I planned to. It would have been overkill as this unit is in my bedroom. The bass is deep and very tight, the set projects the sound throughout the entire room (about 170 sq feet) with ease.
Photo Viewer: You can place your digital memory card int he front slot & the TV has a built in program to view in as many formats as a home computer. Slide Show, One at a time, Pick your picture page. Zoom in & out, Rotate and more.
Picture Quality: on Standard TV resolution is it great, not one complaint. On High Definition. Look out this is just unreal to look at. The colors are so vibrant, and deep you would think you were looking out a window seeing the world. You can adjust the picture to a few different types: including: VIVID (the most amazing color & clarity), Cinema to duplicate a movie theater, standard which takes the edge off a bit.
Ease of Use: The set is very user friendly, and easy to navigate through its menus. IT guides you through each step including an on screen diagram of the remote indicating the proper buttons to push.
The Remote: The remote istelf is actually very nice looking, and even more functional. First, the lighted keypad. Unlike other the entire keypad lights up in a soft red, not just certain keys, but ALL of them making it easy to use in the dark. The learning function on this remote is fast, and very easy. All codes are published in the instruction manual for all popular brands. The distance is excellent, as is the side angle usage. The remote will operate the TV, Home Theater, CVC, VCR, Satellite Box, Cable Box etc. It is very friendly!!!
Mounting: Putting the unit on the wall DOES require two people! Doing it yourself can result in harm to your body and the tv. Don't try it!! Mounting the bracket took about an hour with 8 points of attachment to the wall & studs. The TV weighs in at a healthy 97 pounds (without the attachable base) The base is included with the purchase. The Wall bracket is not.
The Angle Adjustable Wall Bracket can be as much as $499
The Fixed Wall Bracket can be as much as $399
Keep in mind. Plasma TV's either work or they don't! They do not turn on and fade out or get a bad picture over time. They will one day just fizzle, get the extended warranty. If the unit does not turn on one day, chances are you did something wrong or the unit just was done. They are not able to be repaired, and must be replaced (so I have been told several times)
Don't be surprised if you walk close to the TV when on & hear a hum, just like your computer fan. It is the same thing. A small cooling fan in the set keeping the components cool. These sets give off heat, not a horrible amount or even an amount which I have noticed but they do need air flow.
DO NOT JAR, BUMP or TILT the Plasm on its side, front or back. Keep it upright AT ALL times or you will damage the TV... There is NOT much forgiveness on this so be conscious and careful when lifting, moving or working with or around your set.
Thank you for visiting.
