The logical choice

Pros: contrast, sound, price
Cons: none
The Bottom Line:
The picture and price are both the best in the industry. There is no reason to buy anything else.
I reviewed many different TVs. I first had to decide what kind of TV I wanted. After narrowing the search down to a plasma, then I was able to start with the cost benefit analysis. When I was through, the Panasonic 42" EDTV was the clear winner. It is a beautiful screen. It is every bit as good as the Sony and it was less than half the price. The sound is great. I didn't have to require my whole house just to get audible content. I think the programming is easy, but my wife still can't figure out how to play a DVD. It's not all her fault because this TV is very flexible with lots of inputs. I didn't help matters by buying a VHS/DVD combo unit.
The contrast and black background make this unit stand out. The pricing that blows the socks off the competitors almost makes me think that they are low-balling to knockout the competition. But that's OK by me since I get to enjoy an awesome piece of tech for a low, low price.
I could only just barely tell the difference between the ED and HD on resolution and I was looking really hard. I didn't see how that could justify an additional $1,000.
