What to do when your receiver dies?

Pros: Great value, easy to set up.
Cons: speaker connectors seam flimsy
The Bottom Line:
Exceptional entry level 5.1 receiver.
The only thing it lacks is a universal remote. It will please all but audiophiles.
I suddenly needed to replace my existing Sony receiver (STR-DE615)on a budget. Something had blown and it had an expensive electrical toasty smell.
I stumbled across this receiver which is essentially the same as the Technics SA-DX750, for approx. a third of what the Sony cost new. Bear in mind that the price I paid is $249 in CANADIAN dollars.
The optical input eliminated seven coax cables. The remote is fully functional although not universal. It runs MUCH cooler than my previous receiver, and sounds very clean.
Using a copy of "The Matrix" DVD while setting up, I failed to notice any clipping or any other aberations in sound. The Panasonic machine allows for thorough setup and balancing of the five speakers and runs well without a subwoofer at full volume (for those who know the movie think "Guns, lots of guns.").
My neighbors are probably thrilled.
All in, this is a really good value. While I would love to spend two or three or more times as much on a more flexible and impressive toy, my budget won't allow it right now. In all honesty, I won't miss a thing that those other receivers have to offer, other than a better remote.
This receiver includes features found only on much higher end machines only a few years ago. It is also much easier to use than machines of earlier vintage, thanks in part to the "Help" button.
