Very nice head unit, but.....

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Powerful internal amp, customizable displays

Cons: Getting it tuned just right isn't the easiest.

The Bottom Line:
The best features available, especially for the rated power, and not overly expensive for what you get.

OK I have only had this head unit a few days, but so far I can say it is one of the best I have ever owned. It has features that a lot of other decks have, AM/FM/CD (including CD-R and CD-RW playback), MP3, WMA, cd changer controls and aux input. What sets this unit off from the others are well worth the price:

- 60 watts x4 RMS, 70 x 4 peak. Most radios have at most 26 or 27 watts RMS, so this aspect alone is what really made me purchase it.

- CD changer controls, and aux input. While many other head units have these, this is the only one I have come across that lets you use both of them without an extra aux input adapter. This was a huge plus, since I also installed a Panasonic CD changer, and have a Delphi Roady for my XM Satellite subscription, which I wanted to wire directly into the radio since there is no cassette that can be hooked up that way, and I didn't want to use an FM modulator.

- The display is also customizable, so that you can use your own pictures and videos on the display. While this really doesn't add any necessary functionality to the radio, it is a neat addition.

Now for the negatives, and there is only one that I really have issue with. The radio has controls to adjust bass and treble, like most radios have, but it also has a customizable equalizer, which also has a few presets to match different types of music. The manual says not to use both because it can result in distortion. My old radio had the same kind of setup, but when using both it was OK, as long as the settings weren't overdone. With this radio, when using the EQ setup, it I increased either treble or bass at the same time, it greatly reduced the volume coming from the radio, and almost seemed like it was producing less than half the 60 watts it is capable of. I almost thought something went wrong with the radio, but after playing around with settings I finally got it where it should be. That, and the fact that there are a lot of customizable settings, means you need to spend some time reading the manual and tinkering with all the options. Other than that, this so far is the only radio I would buy if you want a high power one. They are a little hard to find because they seem to be real popular!
