the compact PV-GS14 was designed to simplify camcorder operation for the video novice and professional videographer alike. Of course, the new models are video cameras first and foremost, and are well appointed with features to produce sharp digital recordings. For example, the image-enhancing MagicPix feature allows for rich videos under low-light conditions. Digital Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) helps take the jitter out of hand-held video recording and compensate for unintentional hand and camcorder movement. Minimize

Very Impressive

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Picture quality, vibrant colors, easy to use, and compact.

Cons: None

The Bottom Line:
Go with digital technology, it gives you better pictures and sound. Go with at least 16x or better optical zoom, and ignore the digital zoom , you won't use it.

This is my first camcorder so I'm considered a novice. I did my research, visited the stores and asked many questions.
First let me say go digital, it gives a better picture and sound. Go with an optical zoom of at least 16x. Don't get pulled in by the large digital zoom (600x-800x). What are the chances you will be that far away from your subject. Besides the picture becomes broken and fuzzy using such a high zoom.
Look for the feature "image stabilizer". This helps if you move or shake the camera slightly, giving you a stable picture. You can go with a camcorder with all the bells and whistles (and pay a lot more) or you can go with what you will actually use day to day, so go with something easy to use and understand. You will still get the finished product you desire.
I bought this camcorder and I'm very impressed with the pictures it takes. Beautiful color, crisp, and the sound is good. It has one of the more powerful optical zoom (22x) than most other camcorders in it's price range. It's lightweight (under a pound), and fits in the palm of your hand.
The features it has are easy to understand and so simple to use. It's positioned so it's so easy to access. It has a dial for taking pictures, showing or viewing pictures, and downloading them to your computer. This camcorder even takes still pictures so you get a 2 for 1 camcorder. The instruction booklet is easy to follow and understand.
Accessories you might want to buy are a camcorder bag. Buy a medium to large bag so you can carry all the accessories plus extra cassettes. Get a spare battery because the one that comes with the camcorder has only an hour, hour and a half life. The back up battery cost around $100.00, but believe me you'll be glad you bought it when you get out and start filming. Camcorders eat up the juice especially when you use the LCD display. Another accessory I urge you to buy is a lens filter. It blocks out the harsh light(UV light) and gives you a better picture. It only cost about $10.00. Well worth it.
