High Quality with a low budget

The Bottom Line:
This camcorder is affordable for most people. It is a great unit for its ease of use and lightweight capablilty.
I bought this camcorder about 2 weeks ago and used it for a good day. I must say I was impressed with the quality and ease of use of the camcorder. It was a bright day so I have not been able to use the light as of yet but did use many of the functions for the special effects. Also the light weight of the recorder was impressive as well.
Now for the nitty gritty. This camcorder has a 2.5 inch screen that flips for using as your viewfinder or for playback. This is a great function as you can watch your activity and record at the same time without looking in the little square box that we are all accustomed to do. The quality of this screen is excellent as well.
I also played with the special effects which seems like the standard such as, black and white, sepia, 2 into 1, pip, widescreen, reverse negative and so on. This camcorder is not pixel rated so I dont expect anything great for still pictures but there is a slot for a memory card if you need it. There is an upgrade from this unit that looks exactly the same that is 1.5 pixel rated but your going to pay about 150 dollars more.
About the only draw backs so far is the battery that comes with this package will only last about an hour if you use the display screen while filming. A backup is definitly needed for longer events and if the light is used as well. In addition to that you do not receive any digital video tapes for recording in the box so that needs to be purchased as well. I strongly recommend getting a warranty plan of some sort also because of all the small moving parts. It was 100 dollars through best buy for 4 years which seemed reasonable. I read the other reviews and it was between a JVC and this unit but from reading 2 other epinions that had this unit it convinced me.
