Compact and versatile, the PV-DV203 Digital Palmcorder MultiCam? Camcorder from Panasonic offers features that produce high quality videos and stills. It combines a digital camcorder, digital still camera and teleconferencing Web camera capabilities, all in one easy-to-use camcorder. The Palmcorder offers several shooting options, digital effects, and quick and easy connection to a computer using either the IEEE 1394 (i.LINK) or USB interface. The progressive PhotoShot? mode eliminates fuzziness by digitally capturing the image data of a singular moment, and temporarily storing it in two field memories. The two images are then combined to produce a better quality picture. With the Picture-in-Picture mode you can insert a previously taken digital still image into the video you?re recording. Digital EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) compensates for unintentional hand and camcorder movement to help stabilize your recordings. This feature reduces jitter when recording as a passenger in a car or while walking. Minimize

Panasonic DV-203

Author's Rating: Rating: 4/5 stars

Pros: Good value - manual options for low light - color viewfinder - nearly pocket sized!

Cons: Standard battery doesn't last long - "Magic Pix" leaves much to be desired

The Bottom Line:
Best Buy! Offers quality and features most people want and need at a budget price. Should serve me well until new technologies come down in price.

No point in restating what's been said in the numerous reviews out there - do a webserch and look in camcorderinfo.com and dvspot.com for other views on the pros and cons

Researched dv camcorders for a few weeks before settling on this one - when all was said and done I realized that I couldn't afford what I wanted (a Sony) - I think the panasonic dv-203 was the next best thing

haven't tested it in every situation just yet but so far so good - good all around performance, point and shoot. I've found that the low light "Magix Pix" setting just doesn't cut it - it slows the shutter speed to get more light and is just way too choppy for my taste.

When you get down to it, none of the DV cams do all that well in low light. Luckilly Panasonic allows manual control of shutter, f-stop, gain etc. - I suggest that people spend some time learning how to maximize the low light with the manual controls rather than default to the AEs.

These have been out for awhile now so look around for some good prices - I got what appears to be a new/open box deal on ebay for $300 - not bad considering the msrp is $600 and most reputable online dealers charge at least $420. Ebay seems to be a good resource for additional, longer lasting batteries as well.
