Panasonic PV-DV102 Digital Palmcorder MultiCam Camcorder

Pros: Uses Mini-DV, and has digital recording feature
Cons: Not good if you want to transfer video to PC.
The Bottom Line:
Not useful for transferring long video recordings to PC. Good for viewing on TV or recording onto video cassette(VCR).
I purchased PV-DV102 for $599 at local electronics store. It is good for recording video and playing it directly on TV. The audio recording is also good and clear.
However, the reason I had purchased this model was because it had USB and iLink interfaces -- so I was hoping to be able to transfer video to my PC and record onto CD. I was very disappointed when I actually tried to perform this transfer using the Movie Messenger software that came with the camcorder. It allows capture of clips of only upto 30 seconds of video from the camcorder to the PC -- yes, just clips upto 30 seconds max!!. The transferred file is AVI. I transferred a clip of 30 seconds, and it generated a 39M file, which is why it took a very long time to tranfer over the USB port that I was using, (the camcorder comes with a USB cable, but does not come with cable for iLink). Capturing clips of 30 seconds is not very useful if one wishes to transfer say an hour worth of video, from a graduation party for example -- in that case, I would expect the camcorder to be able to transfer nicely compressed video, and duration longer than 30 seconds. But, PV-DV102 is good for making video cassettes(VHS) by using VCR, so I will still be able to use it.
Unfortunately, I need to use this on my upcoming trip, so returning it and looking for some other camcorder is not an option for me right now. That is also the reason I could not wait to order and purchase online, where there are some lower rates available.
Considering that the tranfer-to-PC feature is not as great as I had expected, I feel that the price I paid for it is a bit high. Unfortunately, the other digital camcorders (Sony, Canon, etc) are even more expensive than this one.
