Pros: Close, comfortable shave; easy on skin; easy to clean when traveling
Cons: Noisy. Expensive blades and foils.
The Bottom Line:
An excellent foil shaver especially if have oily or sensitive skin; and for travel.
I switched from blade razors to electric shavers two years ago. Year 1 I used a Braun 8595 (Activator). Gave a good shave but because I have oily skin the vibration motion of the shaver seemed to trigger minor acne outbreaks. This was particularly an issue when I traveled because I couldn't clean the shaver and after a few days the vibration action was rubbing my accumulated facial oil on the foil back into my skin. So I switched to a Panasonic because this model doesn't vibrate and is water-washable.
The ES8077 shaves as closely or more so than the Braun, which is to say that with preshave and some practice it's almost as close as a blade shave. The ES8077 is a slightly slower shave than the Braun because the Brauns with the vibration feature do cut a high percentage of hairs on the first pass. What I love about the ES8077 however is how easy it is on my skin. I rinse/wash it after every shave either using the shaving stand or hand soap. It's much easier to keep clean when traveling than the Activator was. Another travel plus: the ES8077 is lighter than the Braun and since it goes for a long time on one charge I seldom need to bring the power cord and adaptor with me.
I've been using the ES8077 for over a year and rate it very highly. It has fewer bells and whistles than the Braun but then again, I didn't really need a timer to tell me how long each shave took. The ES8077 is high quality, from the Linear motor to the batteries to the blade design -- all the parts that count.
