What is it?

As men get older, we tend to grow more hair in the nose and ears. Good grooming means it needs to be trimming on a fairly frequent basis. This trimming can be difficult and time consuming. A device such as this, designed for the express purpose of trimming nose and ear hair, makes this chore relatively simple and efficient.

Description

The Panasonic ER 411NC Nasal/Ear Trimmer is 5" long x 1-1/8" diameter and weighs a little over 3 ounces with the single AA alkaline battery installed. It's a simple device with an on/off switch as it's only control. It is cylindrical in shape with a removable cap that exposes the rotary blade assembly housed in a slotted blade guard. It is constructed of black and silver plastic. The silver portion looks and feels like metal with a substantial, well-made feel to it.

The single 1.5 V battery is the battery source for the motor that turns the rotary blade. It is fairly quiet in operation.

Operation Theory

Switching the device on results in the small rotary blades rotating inside the fluted blad guard assembly. Insertion of the blade guard end of the device into the nose allows longer hairs to enter the housing via the fluted openings. These are cut when they come in contact with the rotating blades.

Performance

This instrument works very well, indeed. In the past, I have had a number of other nose trimmers and this one works the best. It's quiet and efficient. It only takes a a minute or two to do both nostrils. There is no pinching or pulling of the hairs during the cutting process. It is a simple, safe and painless procedure.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Cleaning is easy - simply place the blade assembly (while it is still attached to the device) under running tap water to rinse out any accumulated hairs. The blades and blade guard housing are made of stainless steel. The blades are mounted in a plastic shaft device. simply wipe it dry with a tissue and it's done. You could remove the blade guard assembly for better access to the blades but it isn't necessary.

When the motor sound indicates a weakened battery, simply replace the single AA alkaline cell. This is easily done by removing a twist cap at the end of the device for access to the battery.
