I have 2 of these cameras. I use them for weddings and for church broadcasting. There is some drawbacks on the cameras. The first thing I would like to see is a way to use the zoom with out using the buttons on the camera. Yes I know it has a remote control to zoom, but more about that in a second. After about 30 minutes of holding your arm up on the zoom button you begin to get tired and the result is sometimes camera shake on a tight zoom in. A remote connection on the pan tilt arm would be very helpful in those long 1 1/2 hour church program shoots. As for the remote control it is not very useful because it only works if you are in front of the camera. I mount one of these cameras on a camera boom and zooming is impossible most of the time. Another thing that would be helpful is if the camera would run without recording a mini DV tape. Since I run cable from the camera to the AV mixer, running a tape is not always needed.
The camera shuts off after 5 minutes without tape in it. The problem there is this, on long video shoots the camera may need to have a tape change in the middle of shooting. So the camera man has to do a quick change in the middle of the video taping. One more little problem is that these cameras need pleanty of light to look their best. I have done some outdoor events that look fantastic.
So with that said I would still recomend this camera. There are work arounds to these problems. I may upgrade to different cameras one day but for now I have found these cameras to be a real workhorse and affordable. They look awsome and the picture quality is very good even if they are a 1 chip camera. Keep the heads clean and you will have a good camera.
