When our family plays games....it's an OUTBURST!!!

Pros: Great family fun, simple directions
Cons: Could use more topic cards
The Bottom Line:
I think most anyone would enjoy this game, and it can be played with as few as two or as many as you want.
Last night my daughter and her hubby came over again for 'game night'. This is always a special time of fun for us. Aside from the fun of the games themselves, it is a nice family time together.
The first game we decided to play was Outburst. It is a game we have played together before, and it never ceases to make us laugh and give some outrageous answers to some very silly questions.
This game is always played in two teams...something that my hubby and I appreciate, because the 'kids' eyes see better than ours, so they get to do most of the reading! I was partnered with my Son-in-law, and my hubby and daughter were partners. I rolled one of the dice to see who would go first....YAY!!.. It was us, off to a good start.
My daughter slipped a Topic card into the plastic Card Viewer...and let us know what our topic was, darn if I can remember now what it was but an example of some the topics are: Units of Measure, Clint Eastwood movies, Countries that begin with 'S', Pizza Toppings, People who played at Woodstock, Things you need for a new baby, Clothing Fads, Frozen dinner brands and the one that the opposing team won with...UGH 3 Chipmunks and 7 Dwarfs! Can you believe that is actually a topic?? I couldn't, but the laughs and fun abound with a total of 800 different topics to select from.
On each Topic card is 10 different Target Answers...the maker of this game confesses they may not be the ten best answers, but the ten that he has chosen and since he made the game, we get to live with it! My son-in-law and I shouted out our answers as fast as we could and managed to get 5 of the 10 of them right, including the one that a roll of dice gave us a bonus for..so we received a total of 7 points. It was then our turn to select a Topic card and listen to our 'worthy?' opponents try to get as many Target Answers right as they could. Although each team is allotted 3 Pass Chips, last night each team only used one. When a team decides to pass, they must choose a new Topic Card and play that one, the opposing team must then play the card that was passed. That stuck us with Famous Nightclubs, we didn't score very well on that one! We took turns and as we kept score on the Scoring Glide it kept running neck and neck. We were both nearing the 60 point goal mark, when it happened....they got, what I consider the easiest Topic Card of the 800.. 3 Chipmunks,Simon, Theodore & Alvin plus 7 Dwarfs Happy, Sleepy, Dopey, Doc, Grumpy, Sneezy and they almost missed it....Bashful! Darn, they won!!
I think that this is a pretty simple game, but lots of fun...and can be played with as few as two people, or as many as you want. Parker Bros. recommends this game for adults, but I think teens would enjoy it also.
We went on to play Boggle..and I'll cover that one in another review, but if you want to have a great time I highly recommend Outburst!
