State of the art power

Pros: Responsive, powerfull and versatile sound.
Cons: Remote could be constructed with more imagination.
The Bottom Line:
This would suit 95% of people looking to build a home cinema. Has power, guts and doesn't mind you turning the volume up really loud.
This amp is one of the best receivers. 18 months ago, I purchased a pioneer 100W x 5 receiver. Over time, I found many shortcomings. When I cranked it for an explosive scene or space ship launch, I didn't explode. Rather it held back a fair bit. Furthermore, playing music on the pioneer was absolutely terrible.
I was saving for a high class Denon, but this Onkyo took my breath away. With a high-current, low-impedence system, it made jump around. Deep rich base, great mid-range and substantial high-end scale made it the most versatile amp I have seen in a long time.
I watched the launch of Apollo 13 on DVD and I must say that it was deafening, heart-racing yet majestically graceful - controlled agression. Watching "fight club," it jumped from the calm, typical background noises of an aeroplane cabin, to the explosive sounds of a mid-air crash with another plane. Absolutely remarkable power.
For CDs, it also delivers fantastically. It similarly has enough power to drive a medium-large. The remote was made with a little imagination, but I don't buy equipment for the remotes!
It has virtually no short comings and can deliver to almost any theatre room i've seen.
