A staid American ambassador (Peck) and his wife are heartbroken when their child is stillborn, but their heartbreak is only beginning when they adopt an orphan. As the boy grows, disaster surrounds him, beginning with the suicide of his nanny, and as the bodies pile up, his horrified father begins to believe that the boy is evil incarnate and must be destroyed. The unique climax paved the way for two popular sequels, "Damien - Omen II" and "Final Conflict."

The Omen: Richard Donner's 1976 chiller is a hellishly good horror movie
| Author's Rating: |
|
Pros: Good cast; nifty screenplay; verisimilitude makes it believable
Cons: Dated slightly by the 1970s clothes, vehicles and other props. Otherwise none.
Bottom Line: The Omen works much better than its sequels because the director takes the story and characters seriously. It is still scary!
Still scary after all these years!

Pros: A solid and still scary movie. Rightfully stands as a minor classic of its kind.
Cons: Like any movie from the '70s/'80s...the fashions are a little scary too.
Bottom Line:
Well worth revisiting this film. It has held up remarkably well.

The Greatest Horror Film of All-Time

|
Pros: Everything
Cons: None unless you don’t like camp
Bottom Line:
For me, horror doesn’t get any better than this. Brilliantly acted, brilliantly directed, well-written characters, and a whole lot of gleefully evil fun.

Pros: The characters and story is very well made. The acting is superb.
Cons: This movie isn't made for everyone...
Bottom Line:
The Omen is a very horrifying film. If you enjoy films like "Rosemary's Baby" and "Hellraiser", then watch this film. It is a great horror flick.

THE OMEN--666

Pros: Gregory Peck and Lee Remick; Richard Donner's direction; Jerry Goldsmith's score
Cons: Some very disturbing scenes, including a nasty decapitation
Bottom Line:
Effective supernatural horror opus that still chills--but not for underage viewers, even by today's gory standards
