I received this as a birthday gift about 3 weeks ago and was using a cheapo kodak easyshare for the last 3 years with 2x zoom. BOY, I didn't know what I was missing! 10x zoom on this camera is totally worth any other features I wanted. Being able to get that close to the objects I am shooting is amazing! Especially if you have farther back seats at a concert or want to get amazing pics at a zoo!
I tried this out for the 1st time at the zoo and took 100 amazing pic's! If you learn the different settings and which work best with what you are shooting then you will develop the most wonderful photo's you have ever had. I love the optional flash option, the optional viewfinder option and the MOVIE mode which is great for taking short films. The actual camera only comes with a 16mb card so I suggest you get at least a 256 which holds about 250-400 photos, a 512 holds 800 at least. The 16mb will only hold about 10! The batteries do die quick, but that is the case with ANY digital camera so go for lithium ion double AA combined batteries. Mine lasted for 5-6 days of continous on/off shooting for 4-5 hours each day. Rechargables are good too but have back ups! This is my favorite camera to date!
