Fortunately record labels are still cranking out LP's for professional DJ's (disc jockey's) and bedroom DJ's like me who still enjoy the sound of records. In an industry where there is no shortage of reputable company's that continue to make quality equipment so DJ's can continue working their craft. One company that has been a staple in the audio industry for over 30 years is Numark. Their smoothly contoured TT1650 turntable features a round futuristic design that's built for the traveling DJ who enjoys flexibility and power.


The Numark TT1650 is a basic direct-drive turntable targeted at those who take pleasure in spinning and listening to records. It is a reasonably priced turntable convenient enough to shuttle between playing gigs and yet durable enough to set up in your studio, den or bedroom. The turntable starts up fast with an easy Start / Stop switch. With this units direct-drive motor playing your wax at the standard 33 and 45 RPM speeds you have nothing to worry about. Numark stays true to form with the TT1650's standard dimensions and size (7 1/2" x 5 1/4" x H: 51 1/4") staying in sync with its competitors keeping as this turntable fits most DJ coffin styled entertainment units.


Industry insiders will appreciate the robust swiveled style tone arm; with its functional replaceable stylus. The adjustable cartridge that comes with the unit surprisingly provides good sound and should be dusted regularly for skip free play. In addition I really like the turntables symmetrical layout and how easy it is to cue records in low-light settings. By and large, its anti-skate adjustments and resistance to external feedback, coupled with its adjustable rubber feet are fantastic when playing on an open table or DJ booth, especially when you get the unwanted bump from someone who inadvertently hits the table or stand making a song request. The stable aluminum die-cast platter holds 12-inch records adequately protruding over the unit for easy control.


The controller knob slides effortlessly and most important works flawlessly changing the pitch control with its 10 percent variation. Grab another Numark TT1650 or disc player, connect it to your two or four channel mixer and speakers and you instantly have everything you need to rock vinyl beats. Once everything is connected your ears will appreciate the old fashion audio quality of playing vinyl. Assembly is quick with the detachable power and audio connections plugs nestled at the back of the unit.



Final recommendations:


The Numark TT1650 is a workhorse and for the price you definitely get your moneys worth. Naturally it lacks some of the new high tech ultra pitch control functions and it only plays at two speeds, however if you are looking for the basics, this is the right turntable. If you are a novice and just starting out in the DJ business I highly recommend the TT1650 as an excellent starting place. Naturally you'll need to practice cuing and mixing before playing for an audience, but this robust system handles itself well and won't fall apart. Seasoned DJ's will take pleasure in the easy control system, responsive high-torque and reliability as the unit plays impeccably all night long. In the end the TT1650 is an above average turntable that gets the job done.
