Author's Review
I have had a joy of owning and using this camera for the past two years, it is a great looking camera body with some wonderful features like exposure compensation, optional remote, timer, different modes of portraits or landscape settings and other extras that come on Single Lens Reflex (SLR's) cameras nowadays. This camera feels like a fully accomplished Nikon model, one of the perfected models in film photography which satisfies the tastes of beginners and moderately intermediate amateur photographers.
The lens on this camera which has been used all two years for the most part was a 28-80mm Tamron lens, produces superb bright crisp, clear shots and is a perfect match for a Nikon N75. I have used a Nikkor 70-210mm lens on a few occasions but it was mostly not needed and did not produce such good shots. I feel that it was partially because of my level of skill in photography.
Overall, this Nikon feels right, it will not have the portability of a point-and-shoot but it is much smaller and lighter than many other contemporary SLRs, the body of the camera is light, stylish and resembles a modern design. As I mentioned before, I bought this camera when all the digital cameras were setting foot into the market which allowed for a great deal. At the same time, I feel like film cameras still are superior in many ways and the technology is perfected in many more ways than digital.
As for the controls on the camera, it is very straight forward. I found an automatic mode as a very convenient feature which of course, does not let you manually set any of the features or aperture but that is what makes this camera so appealing for beginner's segment of the market. The settings are all displayed on a small LCD panel and makes it quite easy to use. This camera uses two photo batteries and I have been able to get over 10 rolls of film (360+pictures) on one set of Duracells.
The build of the body is solid and is all about durability. I took this camera many places and it never had a scratch or a crack. The build quality of Nikons is known for being solid. This is my third Nikon SLR and they live up to their name to this day. The pop-up flash is not very powerful, it tends to fail to illuminate objects even at closer distances in low lighting. May be the only downside of this superb SLR.
