The Nikon D50 with 18-55mm f3.5-5.6G ED AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor lens is a great way to move from standard compact cameras to more sophisticated DSLRs. The 6.1 megapixel camera features numerous shooting modes that go from fully automatic to fully manual, giving you the flexibility to learn at your own pace, and can shoot at a burst rate of 2.5 frames per second. The included 18-55mm kit lens is light and compact, and takes wonderful photos. Together, the Nikon D50 camera body with 18-55mm lens makes the perfect beginner, or second camera, setup. Minimize

I'm a serious photographer, I take shots and write stories for Paintball and extreme sports magazines. It's a hazardous undertaking for a cameraman.. move close to a player getting sprayed at with projectiles going over 200 mph, get a usable picture, and then get out of the line of fire before you've received a dozen or more hits.

Learned with a film SLR, you want a challenge, try using those SLR viewfinders to form a picture while you're wearing the manditory paintball mask that puts your eye at least half an inch away from the viewfinder, all that while you're being shot at!. Started with the good ole basic Nikon N50 SLR, graduated to the top Amateur Standard N90s and then cried as my editors told me to go digital.

I've used Nikon Coolpix (995, 4500, and 5700) for the most part-learned to loath all sealed bodies "Shutter Lag", slow focusing, and darn near impossiblity to be used in low light or indoor arenas. Been waiting for the D50 for a long time.

Miss the preview feature of most sealed body Digitals, but with the "ESP" I've had to develop to counter the shutter lag on those cameras, I've got plenty of time to be sure of my shot before taking it. My ole Nikon Lenses are still good and I'm really enjoying the D50.
