Heals Ouchies and Infections, Helps Some With Pain Relief
| Author's Rating: |
|
Pros: heals quickly, easy to spread, NOT an ointment
Cons: Helps more with minor pain
The Bottom Line:
I'm not usually one for applying creams to cuts, but my son's skin is a different story. Neosporin Plus Pain Relief Cream heals well!
We purchased Neosporin Plus Pain Relief Cream a year ago. My son had gotten a pretty good infection on his cheek that lasted FOREVER (size of a quarter!!). We tried lotions and creams thinking it was eczema, but it would not go away. When our pediatrician recommended an antibiotic cream off hubby went to Rite Aid. I thought he was silly for getting the pain relief, but later it turned out to work well.
But, how do you keep a cream on a drooling infant's face? You don't. (We easily applied it every time he was sleeping.) It took forever to clear due to this. After three months of almost daily use, we still had half of the quarter of the 0.5 ounce tube left.
What is this fabulous cream?
Neosporin Plus Pain Relief is an antibiotic cream (NOT an ointment!) that includes topical pain relief medication. The directions are easy to read (apply a small amount to fingertip and spread on cleaned, affected area. Under 2 ask a doctor.) The product itself is a white cream similar to a smooth lotion and retails for $5.99. I found it easy to squeeze out and apply.
Active Ingredients (from tube)
Neomycin - First Aid Antibiotic
Polymyxin B - First Aid Antibiotic
Praxmoxine HCL - External Analgesic (pain relief)
So does it really work?
Healing - Another infection and major cut later, I love the way this speeds healing. I had to pull this little tube out last week when my son got a gash on his foot (How do you keep that clean?). The first day I could barely keep a bandage on his foot. The next morning, the cut was red and puffy. I apply this Neosporin in the morning, and again in the afternoon. By the morning, there was only a slight line left of the cut. No infection and healing!
Pain Relief
Since my son is only 17 months, he cant tell me if this helped the ouch go away. But several months ago, he had gotten an infection where little boys shouldnt, and it was BAD. The pediatrician recommended oral antibiotics. Not wanting use oral antibiotics yet, I tried this first. On the worst morning, when I changed his diaper, he screamed as soon as the air hit him. I cleaned him up and liberally applied Neosporin cream. Within seconds, he calmed and seemed to feel better. (Oh yeah, the next day the infection was beginning to clear.)
Final Thoughts
What household with a toddler doesnt need an antibiotic cream? I am certainly sold on this one. I have seen it heal quickly and after these many uses I still have some left.
Is it worth the money ? Regular Neosporin Ointment is $5.29, a difference of $0.70. I would venture to say this works primarily on minor pains. I would buy it again simply because it is the only cream Neosporin makes and I prefer a cream.
