Don't cry over spilled coffee

Author's Rating: Rating: 4/5 stars

Pros:  I have never had a bad cup of coffee from this machine.

Cons: The features which lured me to this machine either don't work or are useless.

The Bottom Line:
For the most part I would recommend this coffeemaker. When fully brewed the coffee is aromatic, tastes rich and is just the right temperature.

Author's Review
I purchased a 12 cup Mr. Coffee machine when my previous under the cabinet machine croaked. I did not want another under the cabinet machine as my kitchen cabinets needed refinishing due to the steam the old coffee maker caused. Through word of mouth Mr. Coffee was recommended so I thought I'd try it.
It had desired features for a coffee addict. I could preset it the night before so I could awake to the coffee's aroma perking in the kitchen; I could steal some before the pot was finished with it's pause and serve feature and it held 12 cups which was more than enough to get me going in the morning.
I found the timer worked well when I needed it to. I no longer work outside the home so most days I have the time to just brew it when I get out of bed.
The pause and serve feature works intermittently. Sometimes the coffee drips onto the heating element when you remove the carafe, sometimes it doesn't. I found that there is no method to this madness. If I don't wait long enough the coffee is like shoe polish, too strong for my taste. If I wait too long then I might as well just wait for the pot to be fully perked. Less mess that way. On the average it takes about 20 minutes for Mr. Coffee to produce a good cup of java.
Pouring the coffee is another matter. My husband cannot pour a cup from this carafe without spilling it all over the place. For the time being he's taken to pouring his brew over the sink. I discovered the only way to pour it without spilling it is to hold the top open with your thumb while pouring.
The automatic shut off is a positive feature of this model. I forget to shut off coffee and now I don't have to worry about it. No more coffee glued to the bottom of the glass pot and the heating element has not burnt out yet.
The hide away plug is an addition which I don't use or need. My coffee pot is used daily and rarely unplugged.
Cleaning is another matter. I bought the appliance in white which of course shows more coffee stains than teeth in need of whitening. The carafe is easy enough to clean, a little vinegar and it's good as new. The removable lid eases the chore of cleaning. For the most part this machine is dishwasher safe.
Using this brew maker is simple. Fill the carafe with desired amount of coffee, pour into reservoir. Place filter in basket and put in desired amount of coffee. Replace carafe and hit on button. Wait awhile and coffee is done.
