Motorola E51 MD7161-3
Author's Review
Excellent design and neat-looking handsets similar to typical mobile phones. Several good features such as, Caller ID, Hands-free speakerphone, Intercom, Voice message system with 3 mailboxes, etc. I particularly liked the Intercom feature which allows communication between handsets without having to shout across rooms or from outside the house. However, the handsets (or base unit electronics) seem to go faulty after only a few months or after a power failure. This is the 2nd unit that has gone faulty after replacing the 1st one under warranty. Now Motorola says the 1 year warranty has expired and cannot provide further replacement. I tried to reset and deregister/reregister the handsets as suggested by Motorola but without any success. Upon deregistration all handsets display "ENTER BASE ID ###############" but entering the the BASE ID does nothing except blank the display for about 60 seconds then return to the display again to "ENTER BASE ID ###############". Repeated entry yields similar results so I have now concluded that the Base Unit no longer recognizes the handsets. Only the messaging system still works but that's of little use now without the handsets. Very disappointed and therefore unable to recommend this product.

Cons: Handset detection/registration problem. Solutions by Motorola do not work.
